Wisesorb 3A Molecular Sieve Desiccant 900 g – Precision Moisture Control at the Molecular Level
Not all desiccants are created equal. While silica gel absorbs broadly, Wisesorb’s 3A Molecular Sieve targets water molecules with surgical precision — its 0.3 nm pore size selectively adsorbs water vapour while blocking larger molecules. The result: faster, deeper, and more stable drying for demanding applications.
Key Features
- 3A Molecular Sieve – 0.3 nm Pore Size – Engineered to selectively adsorb water vapour while excluding larger molecules such as ethanol, CO₂, and hydrocarbons. Ideal where chemical selectivity matters.
- Fast Adsorption & High Capacity – Rapid moisture uptake even at low humidity levels, outperforming standard silica gel in deep-drying applications.
- High Mechanical Strength – Durable beads resist crushing and attrition, maintaining performance over multiple regeneration cycles.
- Reusable with Thermal Regeneration – Full reactivation requires professional equipment (muffle furnace). Partial reactivation is possible at home using a microwave — see instructions below.
- Long Service Life – Designed for repeated use in both industrial and precision home applications.
Perfect For
- Electronics storage: camera lenses, sensors, circuit boards
- Laboratory and scientific equipment drying
- Industrial gas drying: nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, argon
- Pharmaceutical and chemical processing
- 3D printer filament storage (especially hygroscopic materials like Nylon, PVA)
- Cupboards, safes, tool boxes, and enclosed storage spaces
How to Regenerate 3A Molecular Sieve
Method 1: Muffle Furnace (Full Reactivation – Recommended)
For complete desorption, use a muffle furnace at 200–300°C. This is the only method that achieves full reactivation of the molecular sieve.
Method 2: Microwave (Partial Reactivation – Home Use)
A microwave can provide partial reactivation, suitable for home use where a muffle furnace is not available:
- Spread the beads in a thin, even layer (no more than 10 mm deep) on a metal or heat-resistant tray (e.g. ceramic). A shallow layer improves heat distribution and prevents localised overheating.
- Use medium-low power (e.g. 700 W as a reference).
- Heat in short intervals of no more than 1 minute at a time.
- Repeat 3–5 times, allowing the beads to cool slightly between each interval.
- Monitor carefully to avoid overheating.
- Note: microwave regeneration achieves only partial desorption. For demanding applications, professional equipment is recommended.
3A Molecular Sieve vs. Silica Gel – Which Should You Choose?
- 3A Molecular Sieve: Selective adsorption (water only), deeper drying, full regeneration requires muffle furnace (200–300°C), ideal for precision/industrial use
- Silica Gel: Broad moisture absorption, easy home regeneration (oven 90–120°C or microwave), ideal for general home and storage use
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes 3A molecular sieve different from silica gel?
The 0.3 nm pore size of 3A molecular sieve allows it to selectively adsorb only water molecules, blocking larger molecules. This makes it far more effective for precision drying in labs, industrial gas systems, and sensitive electronics — where silica gel may not achieve the required dryness level.
Can I fully regenerate 3A molecular sieve at home?
Full reactivation requires a muffle furnace at 200–300°C. At home, a microwave can achieve partial reactivation: spread beads no more than 10 mm deep on a heat-resistant tray, heat at around 700 W for no more than 1 minute per interval, and repeat 3–5 times. This restores partial adsorption capacity but not full performance.
Can I reuse it multiple times?
Yes, 3A molecular sieve is designed for multiple regeneration cycles. However, adsorption capacity may gradually decrease over time. Replace when you notice a significant drop in performance.
Is it safe to use near electronics and food?
Yes. Wisesorb 3A molecular sieve is non-toxic and chemically inert, making it safe for use near electronics, laboratory equipment, and sealed food storage containers.
How much do I need?
Usage depends on the volume of the enclosed space and ambient humidity. As a general guide, use approximately 1–2 g per litre of enclosed space, and adjust based on local conditions.
